A Message from the Board of Education

Dear Parents/Guardians and Families, Staffs, and Students,

There’s nothing more important than the health, safety and well-being of our students, families and staff.  We know these class cancellations will cause significant disruption and inconvenience for families and we are asking for your patience, cooperation and understanding as we navigate this uncharted situation, together.

Understandably, this news leaves you with many questions that we do not have the answers to right now. Please know we are working on finding out more for you.

Many families have questions about what student learning will look like during these school closures. Over the next few weeks, our teams will be working on plans to deliver curriculum and learning resources. Our mission, as a school district, has always been to focus on excellence for all learners in a nurturing environment and that will continue to be our goal as we learn together in our strange new interim normal.

More information on what SD 8 – Kootenay Lake School District’s educational continuity plan will look like will be provided to staff and families from Superintendent Perkins after Spring Break.

We know that you can appreciate the rapidly changing nature of the virus and its impact on our community, city and country. We are in an evolving situation that continues to change daily.  We encourage families to check our website at www.sd8.bc.ca  for the latest updates to COVID-19 as they relate to our school district.

We hope you all find time to look after yourselves and that you are following the advice of health officials in keeping your self, your family, and our community in good health.  On behalf of the Board of Education, we extend our sincere appreciation for your patience and understanding as we work together moving forward.

Sincerely,
Lenora Trenaman

Board Chair, SD 8 – Kootenay Lake School District
